Barton's Buses is a locally Owned and Operated business in School Bus run's and weekend Charter trips.
Founded by Jeff Barton in 1991 growing from 1 Bus to 15 today.
With a fleet of modern Buses equipped with Seat belts and Air conditioning comfort.
Bartons Buses is contracted by Queensland Transport to transport Eligible students to their nearest public school.
Distance Eligibility: - from your nearest public school
Primary: - 3.2 Kms
Secondary: - 4.8 Kms
School of Choice
All students who wish to travel past their nearest public school are required to pay a fare. This fare may alter depending on distance and the number of schools that are passed while traveling.
While it is your choice to send your child to another school not serviced by Bartons Buses, connecting buses can sometimes be late and we don't meet them, while we aim to get your child home we also have to run to a time table.
All Fare must be Paid in advance or NO MONEY NO TRAVEL.
Primary
EG. If you live in Gunalda and you choose to send your child into a Gympie school you pay are fare because there is a public school at Gunalda. The same goes for any students where there is a public school nearby.
Secondary
Secondary students whose nearest school is James Nash for example will pay a fare to Gympie State High School and vice versa if you live closer to Gympie high.
If student numbers mean that the bus is FULL, PRIORITY must be given to ELIGIBLE students.
Unfortunately, we have had to refuse travel to ineligible students on some buses because the bus is FULL. This also applies to students who want to bring friends with them. TAFE Students and general public Passengers.
NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS OF STUDENTS ON BARTON’S BUSES
In Brief: School Buses will NOT run earlier than their allotted time.
Parents/Guardians have the choice to not send students to school on the bus or to call the school directly and take the student/s out of school earlier. If the bus is unable to run for the morning service & you choose to take your children to school yourself then it is your responsibility to pick them up in the afternoon if the main route is unservicable. In the past we have had parents who have taken their children via some back roads and expected us to pick them up in the afternoon when the main route is unserviceable. Our services will run when the roads are open.
We operate services on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Any decision to operate at times different to those advertised must be authorised by them in conjunction with directives from the Department of Education (ie School closures).
The complexity of issues that have to be simultaneously coordinated on the day of a potential flood has made us choose the simplest option. Unfortunately this situation has risen because of “school of choice” with most of our buses having students from between 5-8 schools, thus making it approximately a 2hr operation to pick them all up.
Buses will run at the allotted time only.
If we know in advance that they will not be able to drive down a particular road due to washouts or a flooded road or bridge then the buses will not run along the affected roads. The students will be left in the care of the school. All other accessible/trafficable roads on the normal route will be serviced where possible.
In previous years we have coordinated with the schools to operate outside their allotted times but this is no longer possible due to:
# ALL STUDENTS HAVE TO OBTAIN PERMISSION DIRECTLY FROM THEIR
PARENT/GUARDIAN TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY, SO IF THE PARENTS CAN’T BE
CONTACTED WE ARE UNABLE TO TAKE THEM HOME ANYWAY.
# Some students miss the notice that the bus is leaving early and are accidently left behind at school.
# If buses leave early then there is no second bus at the normal time so students are left stranded at the school.
# Some students get home early only to
find themselves locked out while parents are at work.
# The school grounds are considered a “safe zone” and are the best place for student/s to stay until they can be collected by parents.
JJ & KA Barton apologise for any inconvenience this may cause
On days when flooding is occurring updated information on individual Runs will be posted on our Facebook Page @” Bartons School Bus & Charter” at 6am.
